Tips – February 2014
I was going to (try to) write
something witty about Valentine’s Day, but I missed the boat. Better luck next
year.

Windows Sticky Notes!
In my adventures around the Iredale campus, I often see one not-so-green
aspect of our daily lives: sticky notes. They’re everywhere; I see them stuck
to monitors, desks, keyboards and lamps. I see them in the trash and sometimes
stuck to my pants when I stand up. It’s similar but not equal to a zombie
apocalypse.
Sticky notes are just small pieces of paper, but those
pieces add up. Windows Sticky Notes can help you reduce clutter and give you
some karma points with the planet in the process!
Sorry, you’ll have to
remove my Post-it® notes from my Kung-fu fist!
Don’t be so dramatic, it’s not like I compared sticky notes
with the apocalypse...
Instead of cluttering your physical desktop with paper, you
can still clutter your digital desktop to your hearts content! Windows sticky
notes are simply tidier and easier to discard than paper sticky notes.
OK, fine. How do I get Sticky Notes on my PC?
It’s really easy. If you
remember my IT Tip from March 2012, you’ll know that you can click Start and
then type the name of a program to find it with ease.
Click Start and type “sticky
notes”. You can then right-click the Sticky Notes application that appears and
choose “Pin to taskbar”. This will make it easier to access Sticky Notes in the
future.

Now let’s have some fun (please note: your definition of “fun” may differ).
To open your first Sticky Note, click the newly pinned Sticky Notes
application on your taskbar. You can now bask in the majesty of small yellow
squares gracing your computer screen.
Cool, now how do I use them?

Once you’ve opened a note, you
can click on it and type anything you’d like.

You can create more notes by clicking the + on the top-left of any existing note.
The note(s) can be resized to
fit all of your important information!
When you’re finished with a
particular note, you can click the X to delete it (easier than throwing paper
in the trash, right?!)

Last but not least, is don’t-eat-that-snow yellow not your color? No problem! You can customize your sticky notes!
Right click the note and choose
any color you desire (of course, by “any color” I mean one of six colors). You
can use different colors for different notes!
Sticky notes are more than just
saving paper; they can be a very useful organization tool. Now go forth and
cover your desktop in yellow (or blue, or green, or pink, or purple, or white) squares!
Enjoy!
Have a great month, everyone!
